Think Geek FTW!
April 2, 2008
Think Geek always has clever copy and clever April Fool’s jokes. I think part of the reason is that some of their real products are so off the wall that their imaginary products don’t seem unfathomable.
This year’s joke was pretty extensive, featuring a home page almost entirely devoid of real products, and instead filled with jokes. I even got their newsletter in my inbox featuring these same products. And even knowing their tendency to have some fun, I still clicked through — “Spazztroids Caffeinated Cereal? I’ve got to get me some of those!”
Some other winners: Betamax to HD DVD converter, a caffeine patch, a USB pregnancy test, USB sun lamp, USB Foreman Grill, Pii Pii brothers Wii game. Check out their web site while the prank pages up!

Answer to life, the universe, and everything
February 8, 2008
I was reading a blog entry today on Google search hacks, and it reminded me of a funny “calculation.” I tried to comment on the story, but comments were off, forcing me to bore you with this irrelevant tidbit.
It’s a book reference, and a very funny one if you recognize it, or just plain stupid if you don’t.
Do you think Google has the “answer to life the universe and everything?” Apparently, they do! How do you get your hands on this valuable information? Google it, of course.
I Can’t Imagine a Worse Suggestion
January 3, 2008
I was searching for relevant keywords for Swirl Connect. I don’t recall
exactly what I entered, but I was using keywords similar to “mobile
social software, friend finder, geotag photos, mobile instant
messaging, location based, share photos, share place.” I don’t know
what kind of leap in logic resulted in this suggestion:
Credit: this is posted on the Swirl Connect site, as I was generating keywords for it when it appeared. Swirl Connect is location-based mobile social software that helps you stay connected with friends and meet new people while you’re on the move.
Yet another: Girl needs rescuing from toy-vending machine
July 15, 2007
I promise this will be the last one. Kids really seem to like these contraptions. Makes me think that I shouldn’t waste money on babysitters any more. Just get a claw machine and a giant gerbil bottle filled with milk. “Bye kids, be good now!”

No picture of the child inside the machine this time.

Like Moths to a Flame

It’s been a while since I’ve posted, and I didn’t intend to open up posting again with something like this, but sometimes life gives you material. “Crikey, it’s an epidemic!”

These aren’t close to the best Worth1000 entries, but as a former Boy Scout, I found them to be pretty humorous.

“Baffled cabbie” on BBC
May 15, 2006
If you haven’t yet seen this, check out BBC’s baffled cabbie. Apparently, this gentleman was in the lobby of Television Centre, waiting for his fare. When he heard his fare’s name called, he raised his hand, and was quickly escorted into the newsroom to comment on the Apple vs. Apple decision. The first 10 seconds of the video are priceless, as the man realizes that he’s been mistaken for someone else, and then makes a split-second decision (that you can see on his face!) to wing it through the interview.
Story and video via The Mail on Sunday: story and video.
UPDATE: according to Boing Boing, this gentleman isn’t a cabbie, but rather an IT job applicant coincidentally named “Guy” (Guy Kewney was the man who should have appeared on the BBC segment). When they called “Guy,” and mentioned an interview, he assumed he happened into a job interview. That explains the clothes.
